Moray Council and housebuilder Springfield Properties have agreed to carry out repairs to damaged unclassified roads in the Rafford area after an intervention from local MP Douglas Ross.
Mr Ross raised the issue on behalf of residents who complained that access roads to their properties have been badly damaged by heavy lorries moving topsoil from a site on Mannachie Road in Forres to a new site near an access road to Lyneside Croft.
Residents reported damage to vehicles due to the number of potholes that appeared on the unclassified road.
Springfield Properties initially suspended use of the C14e road and have since reached an agreement with Moray Council to carry out repairs.
Some emergency work has already been carried out, while final remedial work will be done once the earth movement work for the building site is completed.
Scottish Conservative MP for Moray Douglas Ross said:
“I am very pleased that Springfield and Moray Council have agreed to work together to restore the local roads to at least the state they were in before this work started.
“This episode has caused significant disruption to people living locally, with reports of damage to vehicles due to potholes.
“Springfield immediately stopped using the unclassified road when I raised this issue and have acted quickly to agree a plan for remedial work with Moray Council.
“Some of the work has already been carried out, while there will be more remedial work once the movement of heavy vehicles has stopped.
“I am sure this news will be welcomed by the residents who have faced problems and disruption with the current road surface.”
