Moray MP Douglas Ross has welcomed news that SGN will be carrying out “safety critical” upgrades to the local gas network near Forres in February and March.
Moray Council has agreed that the work needs to go ahead despite the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic restrictions.
The work at Meikle Crook, Forbes Hill, will start from February 1 in Councillors Walk, which will be shut to through traffic between Thornhill Road and Pilmuir Road for eight weeks.
There will still be local access for residents and emergency vehicles during course of the works.
Scottish Conservative MP for Moray Douglas Ross said:
“I think this is the right decision from Moray Council to allow this work to go ahead.
“Gas upgrades like this always cause a level of disruption in terms of road closures and traffic restrictions, but it is far better to do that now while most people are working from home and there is less traffic about.
“SGN has described these works as safety-critical. Residents on the gas network need a safe and reliable supply – especially during these winter months with temperatures plunging in Moray.
“I hope the work will be carried out as quickly as possible to minimise the disruption to traffic and to local residents.”
