Post Office bosses have said that a Moray village will remain without a branch – but have appealed to the local community to come up with a solution to restore the service.
The Craigellachie Post Office shut its doors in March last year, just before the beginning of the first national Coronavirus lockdown.
Initially, it was expected that the closure would be temporary, but the Victoria Street site has not yet re-opened.
Moray MP Douglas Ross had raised concerns with the Post Office and a public update has now been given to say that the village will remain without a branch “for some time”.
The Post Office said they would “of course consider any appropriate options if there are any significant changes in the area in the future”.
However, due to the length of time the branch has now been closed, any new opportunity would have to be “sustainable” for both the Post Office and the operator.
Scottish Conservative MP for Moray Douglas Ross said:
"It is now a year since the Craigellachie branch of the Post Office shut its doors.
"This update confirms that the village is likely to remain without a Post Office for some time.
“However, it also says that any alternative options will be considered.
"I am circulating this information as far as I can within the local community to see if anyone locally can offer a potential solution and restore the service to Craigellachie."
