Leader of the Conservative Councillor group on Moray Council and candidate for Moray in the upcoming Scottish Elections has called on the council to rethink waste as people throughout Moray look for recycling centres to reopen without booking and a return to 2 weekly green bin collections.
Commenting Cllr Eagle said;
“For a long time now the people of Moray have been patient, given the COVID restrictions, accepting the booking system for recycling centres and allowing for 3 weekly bin collections but as we see restrictions lift I am calling on Moray council and its SNP administration to rethink these measures.”
“Recycling centres are outside and I myself have been at these sites when other vehicles are there. It is perfectly possible to maintain distancing without the booking system being in place. The booking system is an extra barrier to people using the facility that is unnecessary. I have certainly heard about an increase in fly-tipping and you have to wonder if it is related.”
“Other councils do not ask cars or small vans/trailers to book so why can't we?”
“I recognise that many people are struggling with the 3 weekly green bin collection. Whilst there may be some positives of this on balance I dont believe it is the right move at this time to keep this permanent. The council were not offering to upgrade bin sizes across Moray and with summer approaching many are worried about the hygiene of bins over 3 weeks of hot weather.”
“Both of these measures needs to be reviewed ASAP, I have today written to the chief executive to ask for this to be looked at.”
“As we come out of restrictions it is vital we all take care but we must also ensure council services meet the needs of local people. It is local people after all that pay the council tax for these services."
