Local Councillor James Allan has welcomed news that Moray Council will return as soon as the weather improves to fix potholes on Harbour Street in Hopeman. Local people had raised concerns following the deepening of potholes on the main road.
Commenting Cllr James Allan said;
“Roads across the area have been getting progressively worse over the last few years despite the best efforts of the council team. The problem is the lack of funding given to the roads maintenance budget.
Harbour Street in Hopeman is a very busy road but the potholes were becoming a significant hazard to users, and not just cars but those on bikes as well.
The council came out to repair some of the holes but missed a large section at the top of the road. I am pleased to hear that the council are aware and will be returning soon to complete the works and ensure this road is fit for use moving forwards.”
Further commenting is Cllr Tim Eagle, leader of the Conservative group;
“I have lost count of the number of concerns I have received about the quality of Moray roads, it is through listening to the public that the Conservative group proposed over £330,000 in increased funding to the roads maintenance budget this year. Sadly the SNP party rejected it at this years budget.”
“Our roads are vital to our economy, it is no surprise we see other authorities investing in them.”
“I am delighted to hear Hopeman will soon be fixed, I know many local people have been very unhappy about the ever deepening potholes."
