Last October, Moray MP Douglas Ross called for Moray Council to take urgent steps to address the flooding at Clovenside Cemetery, Forres, which was causing significant upset for local constituents who had to witness their loved ones graves under flood water. Since then Douglas has kept in regular contact with the Council seeking a long lasting solution.
Commenting after receiving the latest update from Moray Council, Douglas said:
“Moray Council have now completed the design work and tendering exercise to install a ‘rain garden’ drainage solution at Clovenside Cemetery and have engaged a contractor to undertake the drainage improvement works.
“The current programme of works is planned to commence in mid-September and take approximately 3 – 4 weeks.
“Many local people were upset and concerned by the ongoing flooding issues at the cemetery during prolonged spells of rain, just last week downpours led to more graves being underwater. I am hopeful that a permanent solution has been found and look forward to the works being completed.”
