Commenting after the full council meeting of Moray Council earlier today, where the Scottish Conservative proposal to run a Moray Council administration was agreed, local MP Douglas Ross said:
“I’m delighted to see a new Scottish Conservative administration being elected by the Moray Council. This follows our best ever result in a local government election here in Moray on 5th May when we increased our vote share and the number of councillors while the SNP went backwards.
“Under the joint leadership of Kathleen Robertson and Neil McLennan, I believe that we will see an administration that works for the whole of Moray and delivers on the priorities of local people and businesses. It’s also one that has pledged to be collaborative and work across the political spectrum to get things done for communities across Moray.
“I’d also like to congratulate Marc Macrae on becoming Convener of the council and I wish him and every one of Moray’s 26 councillors well in their endeavours over the next five years.
“While the electorate in Moray returned the Conservatives as the largest group overall in the council, it also returned members from a variety of political parties and members of no political affiliation. Therefore, I’m very encouraged by the statement that has been made by the new leadership on the council to work with everyone to deliver on the priorities the people of Moray expect their council to focus on.
“In my role as local MP I look forward to working with the new administration and all councillors who have a big job ahead of them. I was honoured to serve on the council for ten years and I know those who have been elected and those now charged with running the council will not only feel the same privilege as I did, but will want to get straight down to work delivering for their local wards and Moray as a whole.”
