Moray MP Douglas Ross has called for a meeting between key stakeholders in Roseisle to address serious concerns among local residents surrounding speeding and road safety in the village.
Douglas’ has called on the police, Diageo and Moray Council to join him alongside local residents in a meeting to discuss how their concerns can be addressed.
Douglas’ call for a meeting comes after residents in Roseisle came to see him at his surgery in the village hall on Thursday.
At the surgery Douglas heard the residents discuss speeding as well as other bad practices from drivers going through the village including dangerous three point turns and using their mobile phones.
Residents are also concerned that speeding could ultimately lead to an accident involving a pedestrian with an increase in people using local facilities such as the village hall and play park.
Douglas also heard concerns surrounding vibrating noise from the lorries that are travelling to and from the nearby Diageo distillery.
He says he is determined to ensure that all key stakeholders are working positively together to guarantee villagers and motorists safety in Roseisle, especially after an incident last year when a car ended up in a local family’s garden.
Moray MP Douglas Ross said: “Issues surrounding speeding and road safety have been of constant concern for those living in Roseisle. I wasn’t surprised to see so many use my surgery as an opportunity to come and relay their current concerns.
“We saw a really bad incident last year when a car ended up in a garden in Roseisle and it is clear that those residents looking for action on this sort of dangerous driving don’t believe enough is being done to tackle it.
“That is why I came away from meeting those constituents determined to find a positive solution. I have called on the police, Diageo and Moray Council to meet alongside myself and residents to address their concerns and work towards improvements on road safety.
“There are very real fears that a serious accident could occur soon if these issues around road safety are not urgently addressed.
“I hope to bring this meeting together as soon as possible and guarantee that Roseisle residents will be at the heart of these discussions which will hopefully alleviate their concerns once and for all.”
