Moray MP Douglas Ross has urged the SNP-Green Government to “come clean” on what they are planning in relation to the A96.
Douglas’ call comes after Transport Scotland officials refused to confirm that the A96 review, which is due for publication by the end of the year, will include recommendations on whether to dual the route, as the SNP previously promised.
Douglas says keeping the public in Moray in the dark over what will be recommended in the review is simply unacceptable and local people and businesses deserve them to be upfront.
He says that this will only raise further suspicion that the Greens influence over the SNP means that the route will not be fully dualled which would be a hammer blow for the safety of motorists and the local economy.
Moray MP Douglas Ross said: “This decision by Transport Scotland will only raise further suspicion that the vital A96 route will not be dualled.
“It is simply unacceptable that Transport Scotland officials have decided to keep the public in the dark about what this long-awaited review will recommend.
“People across Moray are desperate for the A96 to be dualled in order to drastically improve road safety and boost the local economy. However, they are none the wiser as to whether the fast-approaching review will deliver on the previous promises made by the SNP.
“This lack of response once again shows that the Greens influence over the SNP when it comes to road upgrades is ever-growing and hugely damaging to our area.
“The least Transport Scotland could have done was provide some clarity in relation to this review, rather than creating more confusion.
“Our communities across Moray cannot see the SNP row back on their promise to dual the A96, which would be completely unforgivable.”
