Moray MP Douglas Ross can today reveal that a patient had to wait almost THREE days in the accident and emergency department at Dr Gray’s in March 2022.
A Freedom of Information Request by the Scottish Conservatives shows that the longest wait suffered by a patient turning up to A&E in Elgin was 71 hours and 55 minutes.
The figures cover the last five years, with the previous record set in March 2021 when a patient waited almost 29 hours to be treated.
Only a month after a patient waiting almost three days, another patient waited over 42 hours to be treated.
The response from NHS Grampian also reveals further waits of over a day for patients in January, May, June, July and August in 2022.
Douglas Ross says it is “beyond comprehension” that any patient would have to wait this long in A&E and that it is a “damning indictment” of Humza Yousaf’s mismanagement of Scotland’s NHS.
He has re-iterated his calls for Humza Yousaf to be sacked and added that these lengthy delays are through no fault of the “truly dedicated” staff at Dr Gray’s.
Moray MP Douglas Ross said: “It is beyond comprehension that any patient would have to suffer and wait almost three days to be treated in an accident and emergency department.
“My thoughts are with the patient who had to endure this horrendous and astonishing ordeal in March.
“While this may have been a scarcely believable case, the findings by the Scottish Conservatives have uncovered a deeply concerning trend at Dr Gray’s.
“Despite the best efforts of our truly dedicated staff at our local hospital in Elgin, there are far too many examples of patients waiting over a day to be treated in A&E.
“This once again highlights the truly chaotic situation Humza Yousaf is presiding over in our hospitals like Dr Gray’s.
“Patients are paying a high price for his inaction and his flimsy NHS Recovery Plan has completely failed to remobilise frontline services.
“He is not the only problem in our NHS, but he can no longer be part of the solution and should be sacked immediately.
“Waits of almost three days are simply scandalous and cannot ever be allowed to happen again at Dr Gray’s or indeed in any A&E department.”
