Moray MP Douglas Ross has held a “positive and constructive” meeting with representatives from Park Holidays.
Douglas had requested a meeting with the company following complaints from constituents who have caravans on the sites at Burghead and Lossiemouth.
They had become increasingly angry over the deterioration of the site over the last year, describing it as a “bombsite” as well as voicing concerns to Douglas that they felt “trapped” into keeping their caravans, despite not receiving the same level of high quality facilities and management that they had been used to.
Douglas had accused Park Holidays of “absolving” their responsibilities to site owners, which is why he demanded a meeting with them to iron out issues.
He met with Operations Director Craig Hulme and Regional Manager Debbie Grafton to discuss the concerns of his constituents and to question them over what improvements they were planning to make both in terms of facilities as well as communication with owners.
Douglas said that the meeting was “very useful” and that he is looking to continuing a much more positive relationship with Park Holidays going forward.
Their representatives made a commitment to improve their communication with people at the sites and confirmed they will be upgrading facilities at the Burghead and Lossiemouth sites.
Moray MP Douglas Ross said: “This meeting was positive and constructive and I'm grateful to Craig and Debbie from Park Holidays for meeting with me and having an open discussion about the concerns that have been raised with me by people from the sites.
“Events at the sites since the change of ownership have simply not been acceptable and caravan owners have understandably voiced their anger and concern to me.
“I met with many of them last summer, but far from improving, the situation only escalated for many owners. Facilities rapidly deteriorated and there was a complete breakdown in communication, with caravan owners not knowing where to turn to raise issues or seek support.
“The meeting with Craig and Debbie reassured me that they are striving to rebuild that relationship with those on the sites and with a new manager from the area based locally, there will be a direct line of contact for people to raise their concerns.
“This has been an extremely challenging time for people on the sites, especially as they grapple with rising bills as well. Both of these sites have huge potential to continue to be real assets for our area and I'm reassured that Park Holidays will now fully take on board the concerns we've been raising and vastly improve their experience for those living at these sites.
"If not, they are well aware that I will be demanding answers and actions so we don't end up with significant complaints as we've seen in the past.”
