Moray MP Douglas Ross and local councillor Kathleen Robertson say they are “delighted” that the UK Government have awarded nearly £200,000 to help rebuild Findhorn’s eco-village.
The UK Government’s Community Ownership Fund has awarded the project £194,665 worth of funding to build a new space where community groups can meet.
Two fires in April 2021 caused £400,000 worth of damage, destroying the village’s community centre and sanctuary building.
The money will also be put towards offering a range of well-being and educational activities at the site.
Douglas says that the money is a “huge boost” for the plans to ensure that the eco-village can rise from the ashes and build on the work that has been undertaken by the local community since the fire occurred.
Kathleen Robertson – who is also Moray Council leader and General Election candidate for Moray West, Nairn and Strathspey – added that she will continue to work closely with the local community to ensure these plans come to fruition.
The pair added that this is another example of how the UK Government are committed to levelling up all parts of our United Kingdom and supporting major community projects.
Moray MP Douglas Ross said: “I am absolutely delighted that the UK Government have awarded this significant amount of funding to help rebuild Findhorn’s eco-village.
“The fire in April 2021 was absolutely devastating. The work that has been ongoing since then has been inspiring and now those in the community have been given a huge boost.
“It will help to build a new space for the community to help the eco-village rise from the ashes.
“It is a another prime example of how the UK Government are committed to investing in projects right across Moray and levelling up our communities and I look forward to seeing these plans come to fruition.”
Local Councillor and Moray Council leader Kathleen Robertson said: “This is fantastic news. The fire two years ago had a profound impact on Findhorn and local residents.
“They have shown incredible resilience ever since and now they have been richly rewarded by the UK Government’s Community Ownership Fund.
“This will not only create a new space for the community but also spaces for well-being and educational activities in the community.
“I remain fully committed to working closely with the community in Findhorn as this funding helps to substantially move these plans forward.”
